Etiquette and Manners in a Blackjack Game

Like any other game, blackjack has some etiquette and manners that players will have to observe during the course of the game. Some of the common manners are the following:

1. Being a spectator is a good idea. It's definitely one of the best ways to learn how to play. But you must always remember that when watching a game, keep a reasonable distance from the table so that you do not interfere with the players' concentration on their game.

2. If ever you don't know the rules yet, find a table where you can play alone and learn the important rules of the game for yourself. This way you won't be the reason for the hold up of a game.

3. Tipping the dealer is a good move, especially in games where you are sure to win. One way to give your tip is through betting in behalf of the dealer. You do this by placing an additional bet in the direction of the dealer just outside the betting circle.

4. In face up card games, you are not allowed to touch the cards. Only in face down card games are players allowed to handle the cards.

5. You can have some drinks while at the game table but never ever spill your drink. While in a game, avoid getting drunk or order any drinks that will cause a hold up of the game.

6. Avoid talking and chatting too much with other players while in a game because they are there in the table in order to play and not to chat. Don't correct other players of the mistakes they make in the game or tell them what to do.

7. Don't bother the dealer by asking some advice or correct strategy for the game.

The game also has hand signals to communicate player's decisions to the dealer. In a face up card game, the following are the hand signals used:

1. Point your cards if you want to make a hit. 2. To make a stand, you simply wave a hand over your cards. 3. Placing a second bet next to, but not on top of, the original bet means you double or split.

In a face down card game, you make the following hand signals:

1. To lightly scrape the table with a hand means you are hitting. 2. To make a stand, simply place the cards at hand underneath your bet. 3. To make a double or split, place your cards on the table face up then place your second bet next to the original one.

Knowing proper etiquette in blackjack is important. Practice these when you're at a table to make the playing atmosphere congenial.
