Common Mistakes During a Blackjack Game
As a blackjack novice, mistakes are expected. Knowing these common mistakes helps you avoid them in a game.
1. It is a mistake to stand on a soft 18 when the dealer has a face up card of Nine, Ten, or Ace because the dealer has a higher chance of getting a value of more than 18.
2. Never stand with a pair of Eights when the dealer has an up card of Ten. It is best that you go for a split, thus making two hands that each starts with Eight than a hand that starts with 16.
3. It is a mistake to stand with a soft 17. Hitting one more time will not make you bust anyway, play aggressively instead.
4. Hitting with a hand value of 12 through 16 especially when the dealer has an up card of Two through Six (big mistake). The reason is that, in cases like this, the dealer has a higher chance of busting even though you may feel that this is a weak hand. So do not make a hit.
5. It is a mistake to split a pair of Ten's when the dealer has an up card of Five or Six. Instead, you should stand when you have a pair of Ten's making the hand value of 20 because it is most like to win than lose.
6. It is a mistake to make the insurance side-bet when you have a hand of 20 or 21 because in the long run, you will lose more money compared to when you do not opt for the insurance. When you have a hand of 20 or 21, do not take the insurance side-bet.
7. It is a mistake to not double down on a hand of 11 compared to the dealer's face up card of Ten. The truth is, situations like this are very advantageous on the player's side so it is advisable that you double down.
8. It is a mistake to never double down on soft hands. When the dealer has an up card of Five or Six, it is better to double down on all soft hands that has a value of 13 through 18 compared to hitting. In the long run, it will give you more money.
9. Many players double their bets because they feel they are due to win. Many players believe that because they lost for several hands the next hand will be a sure win. That's a false assumption because the chance of winning the next hand is not associated with the win/lose history of the entire game. So don't ever double your bets because of gut feelings.
These are the most common mistakes that blackjack players commit. Avoiding them let's you win more money and have more fun.
